K-12 Education Policy
The K-12 education team focuses on a local and statewide comprehensive policy agenda that advances the following areas:
Equitable Funding - Catalyst California (previously known as Advancement Project California) has a deep history and track record of advocating for public funds to be distributed equitably via Equity Need Indexes. In partnership with the Equity Alliance for LA’s Kids, we support and strengthen the implementation of the Student Equity Need Index (SENI) at the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
Community Schools - As a part of the statewide coalition called The California Partnership for the Future of Learning, we successfully advocated for a $4.1 billion investment for the next 7 years. Currently, we support the statewide implementation of community schools that advances equity through a whole child racial equity lens that intentionally includes early childhood.
COVID Recovery for Students of Color - The pandemic exacerbated existing educational inequities that have long disadvantaged students and families of color. The system is still adapting and learning new ways to address COVID-19 related implications. We support equitable investments and prioritization of services that focus on mental health and learning acceleration for students of color.
