Angelica Salas, Executive Director of CHIRLA

An immigrant from Durango, Mexico, Salas is a state and national leader for immigration reform and justice in her role as Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). Since 1999, Salas has transformed CHIRLA into a mass membership, immigrant-led organization that win local, state, and national policies that advance their human, civil, and labor rights of immigrant families, including in-state financial aid for California’s undocumented students, day-laborer centers that become national models, drivers’ licenses for undocumented residents, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
