Maria T. Khan
Research & Data Analyst II
Maria T. Khan is a Junior Research and Data Analyst at Catalyst California. As a proud Muslim-American immigrant raised in Los Angeles, Maria’s work aims to use data as a conduit for uplifting the voices of underrepresented populations. Her work has helped lead both county and state level efforts for redistricting with the People’s Bloc and OUR LA as a demographer, assessing the state of children in First5LA’s Best Start communities from quantitative and qualitative data sources, developed analytical tools for Bold Vision- a multi-pronged effort to improve the lives of youth in LA, and more. Maria strongly believes that we can and we must fight for justice at the intersection of public policy and data analysis grounded in community engagement.
She is also the founder and executive director of Muslimahs in Policy- the first known professional nonprofit network association for Muslimahs working at the forefront of public policy, civic engagement and advocacy. Maria received her M.S. in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University and her B.A. in International Studies from the University of California, Irvine with honors. She is also a graduate of the Coro Public Affairs Fellows program. Maria has traveled as a scholar to the Middle East region with the Olive Tree Initiative to study conflict resolution and to sixteen countries around the Atlantic Ocean with Semester at Sea studying educational nonprofits.
